What is your favorite Fōmcore piece that we make?
The Lily Perch… that lil seat is pretty rad!

Are there any projects you've worked on that have stood out to you?
One of my favorite pieces we’ve made is a GINORMOUS video game controller!! This thing measured 5’, had raised “thumb” joy sticks and embroidered buttons. A true feat of engineering and sewing… so sick!

What is one experience in the field that has stuck with you?
During a post-install school visit, I was observing a 3rd grade classroom (how the students worked together, how the space accommodated and supported them, etc). A student was working at his desk when he got visibly frustrated and began to tear up; totally overwhelmed at the work in front of him. After a check-in from his teacher, he got up and went to a place in the classroom where he pulled out a ROK Drop and began working with Legos. His tears dried up, he self regulated, came back to baseline and then returned back to his desk. It was really remarkable to witness this kiddo (supported by their teacher and equipped with the tools in the classroom) find their center and stay connected to the classroom community.

We talk a lot about how learning happens everywhere. How have you seen this play out in educational environments?
For me, there’s no single moment that encapsulates the idea that “Learning Happens Everywhere”. It’s really an affirmation that inquiry, engagement, discovery and growth take place in ‘traditional’ moments within a class period and also in more unconventional, improvised moments like a conversation in the hallway during passing period. This phrase is an invitation for us to look at all spaces and exchanges as opportunities for learning and growth.

Meet Charity Brock!

Please introduce yourself and tell us your job title.
Hi! I'm Charity Brock, Regional Sales Director in the Northwest.

How long have you worked at Fōmcore?
4 years.

What are some of your hobbies/interests?
Cooking, hiking, travel, hanging with my kids.

What is your favorite Fōmcore piece that we make?
My favorite is the Story Stone Collection!

Are there any projects you've worked on that have stood out to you?

Custom and purposeful spaces where we are able to connect the built environment to the furniture design as a cohesive element to bring about BIG impact for the student experience.

What is one experience in the field that has stuck with you?
In one instance, I watched students utilize a newly designed, flexible space for the first time. It was so neat to watch how school leaders and teachers had deliberately structured time for regulation prior to learning, enabling students to exercise agency in preparing themselves to be comfortable and settled. There were a few minutes of movement, play, chatting, adjusting their spaces, and then… quiet. Students were settled in and ready to engage.

We talk a lot about how learning happens everywhere. How have you seen this play out in educational environments?
In addition to classroom environments where spaces are now, as a standard, expected to be flexible and varied, allowing for collaboration, reflection, movement, and regulation (not just seated instruction), I am seeing more attention given to transitional spaces such as hallways, commons areas, and small breakout zones that are intentionally designed and used as learning spaces.

What is your favorite Fōmcore piece that we make?
Honestly, I love all Fōmcore products! We make such fun pieces that allow for so much creativity, you can’t go wrong. I really love when I can watch a custom item go from being designed to a fully functioning awesome piece!

Are there any projects you've worked on that have stood out to you?
A few projects come to mind as being my favorite. One was a space that Charity helped work on with tons of Nests and stone-shaped pieces. It was bringing nature indoors for a safe and fun reading library. I want to read there! The other project that comes to mind is Hillcrest High School. We made wonderful throne chairs and Nest toppers so the Nests would look like castles. The other great piece from that order was a series of ottomans that together create a dragon! Safe to say when there is good creative design, it will be a great Fōmcore project!

Whether you're exploring new ideas, planning a space, or bringing a vision to life, this team is ready to support you every step of the way!
