As I travel and talk to many people across the U.S. or even friends at home I get one question more often then others, “what do you do? Well, from the surface it can easily be answered with some generic “one liner” that does’t really encompass the true meaning of anything, but if you dig a bit deeper the answers are quite a bit more meaningful and motivating.
As a co-owner in a manufacturing facility we wear many hats. One of those hats is to guide a team of like-minded individuals to hit targets and goals. These targets and goals can be in production, quality assurance, sales, or even development of new products. The biggest goal in all of this of course is to survive the markets ebb and flows as years pass. To do this you must keep your eye on the bigger picture and focus on your real “WHY” and the “STORY” of your company.
Each one of the people we bring in to our team has a bigger reason why we decided to land a career in the K-12 furniture market. At first of course we all have the same reasons for getting a job, you have to survive and pay bills. If you are able to drill down and ask the right questions you begin to peel back the pages just like a good book and hear some amazing stories. I have listed some of the stories and the reasons our team does what they do below…
- Was a teacher in the past and loves still being part of making an impact on students lives.
- When he went to school he had many issues with learning due to being uncomfortable with the ridged seating and wanting to move. Now he has the opportunity to stay involved and offer seating options to help other kinesthetic learners like him.
- This man was also a teacher in the past and loves student interaction and being able to be present in the classrooms and make an impact for student wellness.
- Wants to leave a strong and positive learning environment for his kids and future grandkids.
So really our answers wouldn’t be your standard “I manufacture K-12 furniture” or “I work for a company that sells K-12 furniture”. Our answers go a bit deeper and if asked that question you will find replies closer to the above. We do what we do for a higher purpose and individually important reasons. As a whole, our mission is to continue to increase student and employee wellness while improving engagement and creativity.
